Mac DeMarco has announced a return to Australia in January 2020 for HERE COMES MAC DEMARCO, a summer headline tour that brings the Mac spirit to audiences down under, on his biggest-ever headline run.

Mac has invited his friends, West Australian psych-rockers Pond and “Neo-Kawaii” bubblegum punks CHAI from Japan, to join him on this magical mystery journey down the East Coast. Pond will also join Mac in Perth, along with WA punk outfit Cold Meat to open the show.

On the back of Tasmania, their latest album release, and sold out national headline dates, vibe-masters Pond will perform in all cities. Recorded in the home studio of Tame Impala frontman and former Pond member Kevin Parker, Tasmania sees the band confronting personal and global dread with rich melodies, their signature trippy instrumentation and chief songwriter Nick Allbrook’s most personal lyrics to date.

Japanese feminist quartet CHAI make their Australian debut in the wake of their critically adored album PUNK. Rebelling against the culture of “cute” they’re positioned under at home, CHAI lived up to the hype at SXSW and The Great Escape, with showcases that had crowds lining the streets. In their album review, Pitchfork awarded PUNK Best New Music, saying CHAI is “a band that screams yes to joy”. Mac’s hand-picked them to join the tour in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and “snotty, snarky feminist punks” Cold Meat in Perth.

His Australian dates are announced on the heels of an immense international touring schedule, including northern hemisphere summer festival sets at Bonnaroo, Festival de Beauregard, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Primavera Sound, Coachella, All Points East and Iceland Airwaves. 

In June, Mac lent his curatorial skills to MAC DEMARCO WILL SEE YOU NOW, a day festival in Margate, United Kingdom that included Thurston Moore, Aldous Harding, Yellow Days and Amyl and the Sniffers.
