Belarusian trio Molchat Doma announce their debut Australian tour this June, with stops at Vivid Sydney on Monday 12 June, Brisbane’s Princess Theatre for Open Season on Thursday 15 June and winding up at Hobart’s Dark Mofo on Friday 16 June.

Founded in 2017 in Minsk, Molchat Doma stand at the intersection of post-punk, new-wave and synth-pop. Dark yet danceable, and with a heavy dose of goth ethos, their existential tracks have captured a global audience, selling out show after show and amassing millions of listens on YouTube and TikTok after their track ‘Sudno’ became a viral sensation.

Molchat Doma create a sound and meaning that is immediately recognisable as all their own. Frontman Egor Shkutko sings the Russian lyrics in his deep, thundering tones, with Roman Komogortsev on guitar, synths, and drum machine, and Pavel Kozlov on bass and synths.

The band’s hypnotic live show has been praised around the world, Clash writing “… with his thousand-yard stare and raw intensity, Egor makes for a captivating frontman… One thing is for sure – they’re only going to go on to bigger things.”

When their debut album S Krysh Nashikh Domov (‘From The Roofs of Our Houses’) was released in 2017, it announced a bold new voice in underground music and found a passionate audience online.

Follow-up LP, 2018’s Etazhi (meaning ‘Floors’) became a viral hit, garnering over one million views on YouTube and becoming a legitimate phenomenon on Bandcamp. Six separate vinyl pressings of the album sold out before US indie label Sacred Bones signed the band in early 2020 and brought both records back into print for good. In celebration, the band performed their first ever London show, which saw tickets sell so fast that the venue was upgraded twice and eventually packed to the rafters for a rapturously received show, mere weeks before lockdown came into force.

Released in 2020, Molchat Doma’s third studio album, Monument, has been praised as “an austere gothic dream” by Pitchfork and celebrated as “an apocalyptic dance party, fusing post-punk, new wave and synth-pop to create a moody but compulsively listenable record” by Loud and Quiet.
