Penny Drop and Frontier Touring are excited to announce enigmatic US rap duo, They Hate Change will be hitting our shores this December for headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Already announced for this year’s Meredith Music Festival, the duo will also play exclusive headline shows, with two sets at Sydney’s Phoenix Central Park on December 7, then to Melbourne’s Miscellania on December 8 before appearing Saturday afternoon in the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre.

Sydney

They Hate Change will perform two shows on December 7 – one at 6:30pm and one at 8:15pm. Tickets for both Sydney shows are free to purchase by ballot only via phoenixcentralpark.com.au/they-hate-change.

Ballot draw date: Monday 27 November 2023, 9am AEDT.

Melbourne

Tickets for the Melbourne show are available via humanitix.com.au on Thursday 28 September at 9am AEST.

Self-described “sonic omnivores”, They Hate Change draw inspiration from a global musical universe, from UK breakbeat, to East Coast hip hop and hyper-local club music from their home state of Florida.

Friends dating back to their teenage years, the duo – Vonne Parks (they/them) and Andre “Dre” Gainey (he/him) – have released eight projects since their 2015 debut, refining their unique blend of Southern rap and dance beats with standout tracks like X-Ray Spex and From The Floor. Their latest album, Finally, New, was described by Pitchfork as a “hard rap record made by, and for music geeks”. The duo are musical fanatics; their shared sonic knowledge is represented by their eclectic and experimental catalogue.

They are a formidable live act with boundless energy. Their appearance at Pitchfork Music Festival last year was a highlight: “with the buoyancy of Camp Lo, the mischief of De La Soul…They Hate Change inspired a boy-band level of enthrallment from the audience”.

The Melbourne date at inner-city haunt Miscellania, presented by content.net.au will feature They Hate Change alongside a curated lineup of local talent including acclaimed duo Teether & Kuya Neil, Mirasia & Mulalo (MC Set) and Khya & Son Ray.

The latest track from They Hate Change, stunt (when I see u) is a “sign of what’s to come” after a long summer of festival shows in the US and UK, a statement of purpose for the Tampa rap duo – “we’re going to continue to do what we do and that’s CHANGE”.

Sonic explorers, They Hate Change are not to be missed. Secure your tickets for their incredible debut shows in Australia this December.
